The story

It looks like a forest. It's not. It's a trail in the small park of Square Saint-Pierre, in Montmartre, right under the Sacré-Cœur. Van Gogh painted it in 1887, while living in Paris with his brother Theo. Take a few steps down this path and you're back in the middle of a very noisy city. Paris is where he discovered the Impressionists and fell for Pointillism. Then he found it too meticulous, too fastidious for a man like him, and left the dots behind.
